New York sports betting in 2026: what Knicks fans can use, and where the prediction-market fight stands

Mobile sportsbooks have been legal in New York since 2022. Which apps are licensed, and where the state's court fights with Kalshi, Polymarket and Novig stand.

Yes, sports betting is legal in New York. Mobile sportsbooks have operated statewide since January 8, 2022, and a Knicks fan anywhere in the state who is 21 or older can sign up with most of the major apps. What is less settled in 2026 is the other half of the market. New York is suing two of the biggest prediction markets, and Novig has sued the state to keep operating there. Here is where everything stands as of October 28.

The sportsbooks: legal since 2022

Mobile wagering was authorized in the 2021-22 state budget under Section 1367-a of the Racing, Pari-Mutuel Wagering and Breeding Law, and the New York State Gaming Commission licenses the operators. Its list names nine:

  • BetMGM, DraftKings, Fanatics, FanDuel and theScore Bet (the former ESPN BET), all of which the board prices
  • Rush Street Interactive, which runs BetRivers, also on the board
  • Caesars and Bally Bet, which are licensed but not on the board
  • Resorts World Bet, which is still on the list but stopped taking wagers in June 2025

Two names Knicks fans may know from other states are missing: bet365 and Hard Rock Bet are not licensed for mobile in New York. Retail sportsbooks also operate at the state's commercial and tribal casinos. The minimum age for all of it is 21.

There is no restriction on NBA games. New York's limits on wagering apply to college teams in the state, not the pros, so every Knicks game is on every licensed app.

Prediction markets: open, and in court

Prediction markets are regulated federally by the CFTC, not licensed by the state, and New York disputes that they can operate there at all. The fights so far:

  • Kalshi. In July, U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres in Manhattan declined to block the Gaming Commission from enforcing state gambling law against Kalshi. Attorney General Letitia James then sued Kalshi as an illegal gambling operation, and on October 22 the commission asked a Manhattan court to force Kalshi to answer subpoenas it issued in July, including requests about users under 21, Yogonet reported.
  • Polymarket US. The state sued Polymarket in September, and Polymarket sued New York in federal court the same day, Spectrum News reported, arguing that only the CFTC can regulate its contracts.
  • Novig. Novig launched its CFTC-regulated sports contracts in 47 states, New York included, on August 4, and the next day sued the attorney general and the Gaming Commission in federal court, asking for an order that would stop the state from interfering, Covers reported. The state had not brought an enforcement action against Novig, and we found no ruling in that case as of this review.

As of this week, Novig, Kalshi and Polymarket US were all still open to New York users. In Albany, a bill called the ORACLE Act would bar most sports event contracts in the state; it cleared a Senate committee 6-0 in May but has not passed either chamber.

What a Knicks fan in New York can open today

  • Six of the sportsbooks on our board: DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, theScore Bet, BetRivers and Fanatics.
  • Novig, where a straight position taken before tip-off carries no fee.
  • Kalshi and Polymarket US, while the state's cases against them continue.

That makes New York one of the few states where every Knicks game page shows the full comparison, sportsbook against prediction market, side by side. It is also the state where that comparison is most likely to change. A ruling in any of the three cases, or a vote on the ORACLE Act, could move a venue off the list. The New York page carries the date it was last reviewed, and we recheck it monthly and after any ruling or vote.

Outside New York

Novig is not available in Arizona, Michigan or Nevada. Knicks fans in those states compare sportsbooks against each other. Prediction markets vs sportsbooks explains how the two kinds of venue price the same game.
