New York Knicks 103, Brooklyn Nets 90: a 28-11 fourth quarter
Down four after three, the Knicks held Brooklyn to 11 points in the fourth and won 103-90, but the Nets covered at 14.5 and the game went under.

The New York Knicks trailed the Brooklyn Nets by four going into the fourth quarter on Monday at Madison Square Garden. They then outscored them 28-11 and won 103-90.
That quarter was the game. Brooklyn had just scored 35 in the third to take a lead, and then managed 11 points in the final 12 minutes. New York moved to 3-4. Brooklyn fell to 1-6.
How it was won
The first half went to form. The Knicks won the first quarter 27-21 and the second 24-23, and led 51-44 at the break.
The third quarter turned it. Brooklyn scored 35 points to New York's 24 and went to the fourth ahead 79-75. The Nets' largest lead of the night was five.
The fourth quarter turned it back. New York's 28-11 finish flipped a four-point deficit into a 13-point win, and the Knicks' largest lead, 16, came in that stretch.
The shooting split was narrow but it went New York's way. The Knicks made 31 of 75 from the field (41 percent) to Brooklyn's 29 of 76 (38 percent). From three, New York was 17 of 44 and Brooklyn 13 of 38. That is a 12-point edge from beyond the arc.
The free-throw line added more. New York went 24 of 29 and Brooklyn 19 of 27. The Knicks also won the glass 43-38 and had 24 assists to 20. Turnovers were even at 16 apiece, and Brooklyn edged the paint 26-24.
Landry Shamet led New York with 22 points, making 4 of 6 threes. Jalen Brunson added 19 points and 6 assists, though he shot 4 of 11 from deep. OG Anunoby had 18 points and went 3 of 7 from three.
For Brooklyn, Julius Randle had 21 points and 11 rebounds. Michael Porter Jr. scored 18 on 4-of-11 three-point shooting. Nolan Traore had 17 points and 4 assists and made 5 of his 6 threes. None of the three could keep the fourth quarter from getting away.
Against the number
The Knicks closed as 14.5-point favorites. They won by 13, so Brooklyn covered. The fourth-quarter run was big enough to win the game but not to clear the spread, and the 16-point lead at its peak did not hold to the finish.
The total closed at 218.5. The teams combined for 193, so it went under by 25.5 points. Neither side reached 104, and Brooklyn's 11-point fourth did a lot of that work.
On the moneyline, the market had New York at -1020 and Brooklyn at +660. The favorite won, though not without trailing after three quarters. Full prices are on the game page.
What's next
The Knicks host the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, November 4. New York has won two of its last three, including a 133-127 win in Chicago. That stretch comes after a 1-3 start that included home losses to Philadelphia and Orlando.
Brooklyn's next game was not in the schedule information available for this recap. At 1-6, the Nets came away with a third quarter worth noting and another loss.
For New York, the takeaway is a fourth quarter that held an opponent to 11 points. The concern is a third quarter that gave up 35. The Bulls game will show which one carries over.
